2016.03.31 A Transport Mission to Fiji Islands Undertaken

At 2 o'clock on March 31, a Uni-Top Airlines' B747-200 aircraft departed from Shanghai Pudong Airport, transporting relief supplies to Fiji Islands. On board are 3,318 pieces of emergency humanitarian aid, with the total weight of 87 tons.

The batch of goods is worth 50 million Yuan and is to assist the people and the Government of Fiji after the havoc caused by Hurricane Winston, for the relief work and after-calamity reconstruction.

On Feb. 20 and 21, a severe tropical cyclone Winston in the South Pacific swept through Fiji Islands. It inflicted on Fuji many casualties and heavy property losses. After the disaster, the streets were in a mess, and a large number of houses were destroyed, leaving tens of thousands of people homeless.

China took lead in providing aid to Fiji after Winston struck. The Chinese Government immediately offered emergency cash and humanitarian aid to the Fijian Government.

After receiving the transport mission, Uni-Top Airlines immediately set up a special working group, and convened an emergency meeting to ensure that the designated aircraft is ready and in good working order so that the humanitarian aid from China can be carried to Fiji promptly.

To ensure the safety of the relief goods, 27 pallets and the related auxiliary materials were specially equipped for this mission. In addition, more staff were assigned to the loading and escorting tasks as well.
